The MBTA's Green Line Extension project (GLX) continues to make strides in its goal to extend the Green Line into Somerville and Medford. We would like to share two exciting developments with you:

  • The Federal Transit Administration recently paid $1.7m in funds to the GLX project. This is the first federal contribution to GLX, and as such it represents an important milestone for the project. These funds are part of the the FTA's recently approved $34.5 million in grants to the GLX project.
  • The notice to proceed (NTP) to the selected Design Build team is now scheduled to occur on December 11, 2017, two months earlier than previously planned. This will enable the Design Build team to more fully utilize the 2018 construction season.

We thank you for your continued support of this signature project.

With the May issuance of the Final Request for Proposal (RFP) for the GLX Design Build (DB) contract, the next DB procurement milestone - submission of proposals from the competing teams – is scheduled for September 28, 2017. Proposals will be evaluated and scored for technical valuation prior to price opening in November 2017. The DB procurement process continues to remain on schedule.

The GLX Project Team held a public meeting in Medford on June 21, 2017. The presentation is available here.

Construction activities being performed in advance of the award and mobilization of the Design Build team continue. Work is focusing on track and signal work in the vicinity of the future College Avenue Station in Medford and the Red Bridge junction in Somerville and Cambridge.

The MBTA will be sponsoring another GLX Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Outreach Forum for DBE design and construction firms on August 16, 2017 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at 10 Park Plaza (2nd Floor), Boston, MA. This event will be a great opportunity for DBEs to meet the three short-listed GLX Design Build teams:

  • GLX Constructors
  • Green Line Partners
  • Walsh Barletta Granite, JV
